Minutes of Core Group Meeting
11th December 2008
Present: Martin Calvert (Chair), Joan & Mervyn Clayton, Adam & Carol Bull, Mike Betteridge.
1. Apologies for Absence

2. Minutes of the Meeting Held 27th November 2008
Agreed as a true record.
3. Matters Arising
- Nominations for Office
No new nominations received to date.
- FGVW 2008 Christmas Cards
Adam e-mailed members of the Group to let them know that FGVW 2008 Christmas cards are available to buy from specific Core Group members and at the December Action Morning.
4. Correspondence
No responses yet on the Council issues raised by Martin with Joe Smallman, Fred Duff and Bath House contacts.
Justin has replied regarding the tree near the Bath House which was marked to be cut down in September 2005. It is still on the list but is a low priority.
5. Action Mornings
Next Action Mornings
- Sunday 14th December
8 tons of stone will be delivered for path work and topping up. The Lord Mayor's path needs topping up and a ramp may be needed to cover the step to make it easier for wheelbarrows. The wood and stakes have already been delivered. There are some chippings to put down too so the Group are looking for small shovels so that the children can help. Shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows are needed on the day.
- Sunday 11th January
There may be some decking to construct and some path work required depending on the work that gets completed at the December Action Morning. Volunteers to meet at the junction of Gledhow Valley Road and Gledhow Lane.
- Sunday 8th February
- Saturday 7th March
- Sunday 5th April
6. AGM Date & Nominations
This will be on Friday 30th January. Please send all nominations for officers before this date.
7. AOB
- Planning Permission in Chapel Allerton
Plans submitted for the area near the Yorkshire Bank are likely to be rejected partly due to a video sent in by Chapel Allerton residents showing the volume of traffic in the area. The full plans are due to be submitted and there is likely to be an appeal.
- Horses' Field
The ponies and sheep have been removed from the horses' field.
- Bulbs
Swillington Garden Centre has a large number of bulbs, however the Group feel that the ground is too frozen to plant any at the moment.
- Hand Rails
Mervyn has received a number of requests for hand rails to be put along some of the paths. The Group agreed to look into this.
- FGVW Talk
Mike is giving a talk on the Group's work to The Colton Whitkirk & District Gardeners Association on 13th January at Colton Methodist Church. There is an opportunity to sell merchandise but another volunteer is needed.
