4. Correspondence
Minutes were received from the Gledhow Conservation Area Group meeting on 22 June.
An e-mail was received from Joe Smallman regarding the lake. Martin had written to Joe concerning the volume of silt in the lake and asking about dredging. The e-mail stated that it was not necessary as the lake still achieved its "attenuation function", the water was not being adversely affected, and the cost to dredge the lake would be £100,000. He stated that debris and litter were removed frequently from the lake.
The Group were asked to come up with suggestions as to what else could be done to help improve the appearance of the lake. Current suggestions include gathering photos of how the lake has looked in the past and contacting Councillor Carter to see if there is any funding available.
A local resident whose house and garden overlook the woods has approached the Group asking if they could build some steps leading from her garden into the woods. The Group approached Leeds City Council regarding this and has received a letter confirming that this is not permissible. Parks & Countryside has rejected the proposal on the basis that they would then be responsible for the steps and any liabilities arising from them (as the steps would be on their land), that this would not be an official public access or entry point into a public area, and that it could encourage anti-social behaviour.

There are some flowers to plant and seeds to collect if any children volunteer. Volunteers to meet at the old car park on Gledhow Valley Road opposite Gledhow Park Drive.
