Martin Calvert, Adam Bull.

2. Minutes of the Meeting Held 8th July

There was some confusion as to who had attended the meeting, who had apologised and who had taken the minutes, but everything else was agreed as a true record.

3. Matters Arising

  • Benches in the Woods
Two plaques have now been put on the benches.
  • St Matthews Cream Tea Event 13 July 2013
Adam and Carol attended the event to sell FGVW merchandise. As expected at an event like this, very little was sold (£17 worth) and St Matthews kindly waived the table fee.

4. Correspondence

The Group received an e-mail from Gledhow Valley Conservation Area Group inviting everyone to attend a landscape and still life exhibition by local artist Judith Levin. There is an open preview on Saturday 14th September 3.30pm to 8.30pm at Oakley House East at 22 Lambert Avenue. Please contact gvcaag@yahoo.co.uk for further details.

5. Action Mornings

  • Sunday 14 July 2013
Work continued in Hilda's wood. Some benches were put in and some path work completed. Around 20 volunteers attended.

Future Action Mornings

Proposed dates and tasks (subject to change):

  • Sunday 18 August 2013
The Bath House and surrounding area will be cleaned ready for the Heritage Open Day. Volunteers please meet at the Bath House.
  • Saturday 21 September 2013
The Group proposed to complete the path in Hilda's wood. However, this could be problematic due to the steps and distance to travel with the stone.
  • Sunday 20 October 2013
  • Sunday 17 November 2013
  • Sunday 15 December 2013

6. Lloyds Bank Volunteers 23 July

10 Volunteers from Lloyds Bank did some excellent work in the woods despite torrential rain during the morning. The volunteers did a fabulous job of building paths and moving stone.

7. FGVW Christmas Cards

Martin has contacted Leodis to obtain permission to use two of their photographs for cards. In the meantime the Group asked has asked Adam to send out an e-mail to members requesting any photos of winter scenes of the woods that could be considered for Christmas cards. The Group also asked Adam to obtain some quotes for printing.

8. Bath House Open Day

The Bath House will be open on 15 September between 12.30pm and 4.30pm as part of the Leeds City Council Heritage Open Days event. The Group will start setting up from 11am. Volunteers and/or any home baking would be very welcome.

9. AOB

  • Skipton Building Society Grassroots Grant
The closing date for entries was 31st July. Voting is due to open "mid-August". An e-mail will be sent to members letting them know when and how they can vote as soon as voting opens.
  • Waitrose Community Grants
Jenny Page agreed to obtain the necessary forms and information to apply for a community grant.
  • St Gemma's Hospice Donation
The Group has donated £50 to St Gemma's Hospice in lieu of flowers for Audrey's funeral.
  • Fly Tipping
Members are asked to be vigilant over fly tipping in the woods and to report it to the environmental department at the Council. The tip at Stanley Road is closing and changes to rules governing which vehicles that can take rubbish to the tip are changing from the 1st August. Some vehicles are prohibited but others need a permit, which can be easily obtained free of charge from www.leeds.gov.uk/recyclingsites.
  • Inner North East Area Committee
Joan and Mervyn attended the meeting on behalf of the Group. The issue of fly tipping was raised and Councillor Christine Macniven confirmed that all fly tipping should be reported to the environmental department. Joan had tried this out and some rubbish had been removed within 2 days of it being reported. The Group will also receive some free black bin liners. The Friends of Roundhay Park had also been the victim of some fraudulent activity and warned the Group to be vigilant. Some of their cheques had been fraudulently signed and someone had gained access to their bank account and had attempted to set up a standing order.
  • Oakwood Farmers Market
The Group will be selling merchandise at Oakwood Farmers Market on Saturday 16th November 2013.
