1. Apologies for Absence

Paul Ellis, Jenny Page.

2. Minutes of the Meeting Held 12th August

Agreed as a true record.

3. Matters Arising

  • Skipton Building Society Grassroots Grant
Voting closes on 19th September 2013.
  • Waitrose Community Grants
The Group applied some time ago and was unsuccessful. The Group will try again.

4. Correspondence

The Group received an e-mail from a resident of Brackenwoods complaining about the state of the meadow where the derelict garages used to be. The Group is not responsible for this area, but Martin agreed to contact the Council to see if it could be cut. Peter to respond to the e-mail.

5. Action Mornings

  • Sunday 18 August 2013
The Bath House and area was cleaned ready for the Heritage Open Day.

Future Action Mornings

Proposed dates and tasks (subject to change):

  • Saturday 21 September 2013
The Group proposed to complete the path in Hilda's wood. Four tons of stone to be delivered at the top and barrowed down. Also litter picking. Volunteers to meet at the junction of Gledhow Lane and Gledhow Valley Road.
  • Sunday 20 October 2013
  • Sunday 17 November 2013
  • Sunday 15 December 2013

6. FGVW Christmas Cards

Adam brought some photos to the meeting that had been sent in by members of the community. The Group spent some time going through the photos and selecting the ones that they felt would make the best Christmas cards. Card printing offers will be available from Print Ideas in Oakwood from October so Adam will wait and get the best prices before ordering the new cards.

7. Bath House Open Day

The Bath House was opened on 15 September as part of the Leeds City Council Heritage Open Days. The Group raised £287.88 in total and welcomed 124 visitors to the Bath House, despite the rainy weather. The selection of home baking was excellent and to a very high standard. The Group used a large marquee instead of gazebos this year due to the poor weather and this worked very well.

8. AOB

  • Roundhay School Christmas Fair
Diane has received details of the Roundhay School Christmas Fair. The Fair will be held on 30 November 2013 from 10.30am to 1.00pm. Tables cost £15. Diane to apply on behalf of the Group.
  • Gledhow Valley Conservation Area Group
Some members have raised concern about the lack of distinction between the Gledhow Valley Conservation Area Group and FGVW. For example, both groups sell greetings cards of the woods and the public are sometimes unclear as to which group benefits. It was not clear how to deal with this issue.
  • Grants
The Group has received £238 from the Proceeds of Crime fund. Adrian is also looking into applying for a First Group Grant although we need a First Group employee sponsor.
  • Bulbs and Paths
The Group has 6 bags of bulbs to plant. It was agreed to give some to the people who have donated benches to plant around the bench areas, and to plant the remainder at the next Action Morning. Joan also agreed to give Martin the memorial wording for one of the benches so a plaque could be ordered. There was a request to repair some path work rather than starting a new one once Hilda's path was finished. The Group also agreed to get some more chicken wire as it has become damaged or worn out on some of the decking.
  • FGVW Display Boards
The Group has received some display boards on loan from the Council. It has decided to keep these for outdoor events and keep the less robust ones for indoor events. Martin to ask Paul if he can store them. Adrian agreed to store the indoor ones.
  • Website Alteration
Joan agreed to send Adam amended details concerning Edward Waddington for the website.
  • Radish
Sadly, Radish is expecting to close after Christmas 2013.
