Minutes of Steering Group Meeting19th September 2024

1. Apologies for Absence 
Adam & Carol Bull, Adrian Coltman, Emily Wilde, Steve Jones-Blackett, Claire Johnson, David Lumb. 
2. Minutes of the Meeting Held 8th August 2024 
Agreed as a true record. 
3. Matters Arising 
 
David Miles wishes to purchase a couple of water quality monitoring items funded by FGVW. It was recommended he liaise with Steve Jones-Blackett.The Economic and Social Research Council (ERSC) has awarded £1million funding to Leeds and York universities for Citizen Science water quality monitoring projects. This will allow for monitoring of heavy metals and pharmaceuticals.Leeds City Council (LCC) has paid for the River Stewardship Company (RSC) to clear debris at the dam end of the lake to enable water quality monitoring to take place.David Miles is chasing LCC for action regarding the 5 properties with cross-connections to the infamous surface water drain. Yorkshire Water has sent letters to the 5 properties and LCC needs to ensure resolution.There is now 12 months of data on water quality to make a report to send to councillors, politicians and public bodies. 
4. Action Mornings 
 
Sunday 18 August 2024Paths were cleared, hedges trimmed and overhanging branches removed.
Sunday 22 September 2024Removal of cut and raked hay to the sides of Beck Pasture, some tree thinning, more hedge trimming and litter picking. Volunteers to meet at Beck Pasture (the FGVW owned field) on Gledhow Valley Road.
 
5. Trustees Update 
 
The next Trustees Meeting will be held on 24th September 2024. 
6. Project to Eradicate Bamboo and Knotweed and Create Wetland off Gledhow Lane 
There was an online meeting on 19th September 2024. Costs of removal of have increased so as much soil as possible will be left on site in the embankment. The soil will be chemically sprayed instead of being removed. As a result, wording of notices will include the wording "Dog owners are advised to keep dogs on leads whilst the work is taking place". Areas of work will be fenced off and "Spraying taking place" notices will be erected. 
Puddle clay, rather than liner, will be used to create the wet areas. Trees in the affected areas will be protected. 
7. Chapel Allerton Festival / Bath House Opening 
Recently discovered boxes of FGVW merchandise were heavily discounted and sold at the Chapel Allerton Arts Festival. 
Takings from Festival £506.56, compared to £504.10 in 2023. There was lots of footfall and it was a profitable day. 
Takings from Bath House £123.41, compared to £270.74 in 2023. The weather and the Green Fair opening of the Bath House were part reasons for the lower takings. 
8. AOB 
 
David Miles will be meeting with the RSC to discuss holes in new viewing platform.Tree Warden Toby Hunt is leading a tree walk on the afternoon of 24th November 2024.David Miles leading a walk for Moortown Cubs in October.The Green Fair report will be discussed at the next meeting.The next Steering Group Meeting will be on 17th October 2024 (a change from original date due to club not being available).
