Friends of Gledhow Valley Woods has been awarded £50,000 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to restore Gledhow Lake, the medieval lake that sits alongside Gledhow Valley Road.
The project will involve removing accumulated silt, reinforcing lakeside paths, and carrying out work to improve biodiversity around the lake and its margins.
The lake has long been a key feature of the valley’s ecology, providing habitat for a wide range of wildlife including waterfowl, dragonflies, and amphibians.
We are grateful to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for making this work possible, and to all our members whose support has helped FGVW develop into an organisation that can successfully apply for major grants.
Work on the lake is expected to begin later in the year.
